The Palo Alto Girls swimming team ran up against the defending CCS champion Monta Vista Matadors on Friday and saw why MV was the defending champ. Palo Alto only managed to win two event on the day, the 200 Medley Relay, Kayleigh Svensson, Haley Chalmers, Jayna Wittenbrink and Grace Zhao won in a time of 1:52.57. Jayna Wittenbrink won the 100 Butterfly in a time of 58.90. The Lady Vikes swam tough, but Monta Vista was just to strong on this day. The girls still feel positive about their meet and their chance to win the League Championship come the end of the year. Next week the Lady Vikes will take on Saratoga High School at Saratoga on Friday, March 28th.
The boys also had a tough meet but came out on top with a score of 93-81. The boys, William Lee, Scott Powell, Andrew Liang and Winston Wang won the opening relay in a time of 1:35.73. Andrew Liang and his younger brother Alex Liang were both double winners as was William Lee. Alex won the 200 Freestyle, 1:45.23, and the 500 Freestyle, 4:42.56, while Andrew won the 50 Free, 21.37, and the 100 Fly in 50.82, Lee won the 200 IM, 1:57.46, and the 100 Back, 53.38. Other winners included Scott Hillen in diving and Scott Powell in the 100 Breaststroke in a time of 59.70, while the 200 Free Relay of Wang, Ryan Drover, Omri Newman and Andrew Cho won in a time of 1:29.15. The Vikings enjoyed getting a win over Monta Vista in a dual meet for the first time in 3 years and look forward to their next meet against Saratoga High School at Saratoga on Friday, March 28th.

Vikings improve to 3-0 against Homestead
The Palo Alto Viking swimming teams both improved to 3-0 on this young season with strong performances against Homestead High School.
For the Lady Vikes it was a strong day. They started with a victory in the 200 Medley Relay as the relay of Kayleigh Svensson, Haley Chambers, Elizabeth Wilkinson and Katie Franics finished first in a time of 1:56.46. Jayna Wittenbrink contributed two victories in the 200 Freestyle and the 100 Butterfly with times of 2:00.89 and 58.12. Grace Zhao also added two victories in the 50 and 100 Freestyles with times of 24.65 and 54.80. Other winners were Caroline Moeser in the 500 Freestyle (5:35.85), Kayleigh Svensson in the 100 Backstroke (1:04.09), Haley Chalmers in the 100 Breaststroke (1:10.94). The Lady Vikes also won both Freestyle relays as Zhao, Wittenbrink, Brittany Nguyen, and Svensson cruised to victory in the 200 FR with a time of 1:39.73, while Zhao, Wittenbrink, Nguyen and Katie Francis won the 400 FR in a time of 3:52.43. It was a great start to the dual meet season for the girls as they look forward to a tough meet against defending CCS champion Monta Vista next week.

The boys also won the Freestyle relays as Sam Kelley, Ryan Drover, Scott Powell and Omri Newman took the 200 FR in a time of 1:32.20 and Liang, Lee, Neman and Drover brought home the 400 FR in a time of 3:27.47. Double winners for the day were Liang in both the 50 Free, 21.48, and the 100 Fly, 51.88 while William Lee was also a double winner in the 200 IM, 2:03.46, and the 100 Back in a time of 52.87.Winston Wang won the 200 Freestyle in a time of 1:47.11, Sam Kelley won the 100 Freestyle in 50.94, Alex Lian in the 500 Free 4:47.42 and Scott Powell winning the 100 Breaststroke 1:01.12. Boys win Spring Invite, Girls place Second
The Palo Alto Viking boys swimmers were not the best hosts as they won their own Spring Invitational besting Monta Vista High School and 6 other schools. The boys used depth and diving to overcome their closest competitor. Andrew Liang was a double winner in the 50 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly. While Scott Hillen was victorious in the diving. The boys 400 Freestyle Relay team of Andrew Liang, William Lee, Omri Newman and Andrew Cho also finished first in a time of 3:16.36. The victory was a great way to get ready for the beginning of the League season next week.
The girls had several great swims and personal bests on their way to a second place finish to Monta Vista. The girls will look to continue their improved times against Homestead with the boys next week.

Palo Alto starts 2014 2-0
The Palo Alto Viking swimming teams started the season 2-0 winning both sides of a double dual meet against Menlo and Menlo Atherton. Both teams swam short handed as other members of the team were swimming at a sectional meet in Texas. Due to technical difficulties times are unavailable to post. But stay tuned as we will keep you updated on all of this years meets.
